Change Team:
7/8 B Coaches
by posted 05/04/2021

Dear 7/8B Parents and Players,

It's hard to believe we're more than halfway through the season! The team has come together well this season, and is one of our best 7/8 groups we've ever had. We hope the girls are enjoying themselves!

If you were able to make the parent meeting Sunday you heard from the coaches that Grace will be leaving us next week. As we've done each year, when her Fairfield University season ends, she heads home to MA and we have another great coach take her spot. We're especially lucky to have Ashton holding down the fort - Ashton is the head JV coach for Staples and will head coach for us next season. The girls are in good hands.

Olivia Troy is a senior at UCONN, and started coaching with PAL when she was in high school at Staples. She has continued coaching each year she returns with PAL, Grizzlies Club and Gamebreaker lacrosse camps. We are excited to have her back with our 7/8B team this spring!

Both Grace and Olivia's schedules with us depend on their teams' successes this weekend. We'll keep you updated as information becomes available. In the meantime, we'll have Coach Ashton leading the team through the transition. Grace will be at Saturday's game and M and W practices, Sunday is TBA. Coach Olivia will return either Wed or once her NCAA tournament ride has ended.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to our Coaching Director Amy Alvord - amyalvord13@gmail.com.

Thank you,

Amy Alvord

TIME & SCORE KEEPING

1. Arrive at the sideline 10 minutes before the start of the game.

2. The scorer and timekeeper stand on the sideline at midfield throughout the game. You'll need a mobile phone with a timer on it. Each team has a scoreboard that is kept at midfield. Don't use the "home" and "away" indicators on the scoreboard. Make it so the score on the side next to each team is that team's score. (Numbers on left are for the team on the bench to the left).

3. Prior to the game, the timekeeper will confirm specifics with the referee(s), however, typically:

a. Games are 25-minute halves. Halftime is 5 minutes.

b. Running time (no stops) except for the last 2 minutes of each half. When it gets to two minutes left, let the clock keep running until the first whistle. Then stop it on every whistle for the last two minutes. This includes stopping it for goals - restart the clock when the ref blows the whistle on the draw.

c. Stop the clock on Time outs or any time the ref indicates to stop the clock. They'll whistle and call out "Stop the clock" and cross their arms overhead. (Rare)

d. When there are two minutes left, tell the referee closest to you.

e. Countdown the final 10 seconds out loud - make sure the ref can hear you.

f. Be available for coaches to ask you how much time is left in the half.

Hi all,

Due to scheduling conflicts and the Staples HS games, 7/8B practice will now shift to 6:30-800 pm this Wed (4/28), on Ginny Parker Turf.

Also, please consider each parent taking a turn at TimeKeeper or ScoreKeeper.  Super easy jobs yet very needy, as you can imagine.  The urgent need is for this weekend though all home games need support.  Please click on this link and sign up for your spot.
